Why do a casual session?
People often ask us whether they actually need an engagement photoshoot. Of course, with everything else going on, an engagement shoot seems more like another item on a to-do list, and in the order of priorities, it would appear to be the most logical area to cut. However, engagement sessions serve multiple purposes, and is often integral to the photographic success of your wedding. Now, you’re probably thinking, “of course he’d say that“, but here’s what we know to be true:
The perfect shot is all about comfort, timing, aesthetics, and setting. And we’d have to say, of all of the above, comfort is the most important element in developing the perfect photograph. Being comfortable makes it easier to convey emotion and honesty through facial features and body language. Simply put, a picture that will truly capture all of the hope, joy and excitement overarching between a couple needs to first capture the nuances that only a relaxed expression of intimacy and trust, can convey.
This will not necessarily come through the first time that I take a picture – if it did, my job would be easy. The first handful – and in some cases, the first many handfuls – are usually tense and unrepresentative of the beauty that defines your love. It takes time to become comfortable with your chosen photographer, and for some, being the centre of photographic attention can be equally intimidating. The engagement session is meant to work through these jitters, to make it easier and more seamless for your wedding day.
